What does the blue square phone symbol in contacts mean please?

Hi, can anyone tell me what the blue square symbol containing the phone icon means next to a name in contacts list please?
I recognise the whatsapp and viber icons but the blue square I am unfamiliar with. When I click on the contact it says "device", but I am not sure to what that refers.

Hi and welcome to the forums

If you open contacts

the press menu>contacts to display

You should see a list of options with the relevant symbols next to them. Is it one of those?

Yes, it is the second on the list, labelled "device". Does this mean stored in the phone memory? Just not sure what it refers to or why it only appears for some contacts.

Yes

(Its a green square with a phone on my note 2.) Its means the contact is stored in your phone memory but not in the google cloud server or on your sim card. If your phione dies, it is lost.
