Help What happened? Lost connection

Stealthman

Android Enthusiast
Just got the Maxx HD yesterday. I want to love this phone and it's pretty cool so far but something just happened that is making me question my decision.

I was in an area with not so great signal, I opened the sirius app and was streaming music but it lost connection. It shows signal bars but doesn't say 4g or even 3g it says nothing. I tried to go on a website and it said not connected. I went back to an area that normally gets a great signal and it hasn't come back. It's been a while. I haven't restarted the phone, I hope that is not what I am going to have to do everytime this happens.

Can anyone explain and/or help me fix it?

Update: I powered off the phone and turned it back on and it picked up 4G. However I am going to have to do this everytime this happens? I really don't want to put I am seriously considering going to the iphone because of little glitches like this in android.

One glitch and your jumping to an iphone already .. Next time you can try to put it in airplane mode and take it back out and see if that fixes it.

Well it's frustrating. I am coming from a Dinc2 and it had glitches too, now I have a brand new "latest & greatest" phone and it shouldn't have these issues.

I didn't know about the airplane mode, I'll try that next time.

Yes, you need to try toggling airplane mode before rebooting to get data connection back. If this happens too often, try swapping SIM or phone at verizon store.

Also you better change your network mode from global(default) to LTE/CDMA under wireless setting. I found it holds 4G better than global.

That device (no glitches) doesn't exist. Good or bad, as these devices get more complicated, it's going to be a fact of life. Apple has their share of issues, and Android (and vendors) have their share of problems.

The difference is that with Android, you will typically find workarounds or other ways of doing things. With Apple, you're kind of stuck with what Apple thinks is best.

If the problem happened to me, I don't know that I live with a phone that needs to be powered down after hitting a deadzone. It's never happened to me, so I haven't had to face it.

IT could also be the app causing something to wig out, so at the very least, experiment by going to the spot w/o the streaming app running. Maybe it was a one time glitch.

if not, you have two weeks (with Verizon, anyway) to return the phone. But you may find that dealing with Iphone's smaller screen isn't worth it - after having gotten used to the bigger screen. Again, it's all about what trade-offs you're willing to make. Good luck.

thanks guys.

On a good note, I've been using it heavily for 12 hours and have 45% battery left and I really like google now.

I'll switch it thanks.

So let me get this right, you're complaining about a little glitch in your phone, and that makes you want to jump to an iPhone? Let's not forget antennagate, that was on a slew full of iPhones. Maps mess up, which they needed Google to fix. That happened on all iPhones. The iPhone 5 upon release had a very well known issue with connecting to wifi. Bottom line is regardless of the maker, there's always time to be one cellphone issue or other at some point.

I suspect a glitch on the tower side at one location and toggling Airplane Mode would probably have brought it back. If that was the case then ANY phone in the area would have been susceptible.

Thanks guys, sorry if it sounds like I was ready to jump off a bridge, I was just frustrated being the first day with this phone. Other than that so far I love it.

That's kind of what I was thinking as well, and if Stealthman happens to go through that area frequently he could try to reproduce the issue.

LOL...same thing happened to me yesterday. I was at the beach in Malibu listening to Sirius/XM and data connection just disappeared. Very strange. I powered off/on and it came back.

I have had the phone since thanksgiving and this is the first time it's happened. So rest assured, this is not a frequent glitch. Maybe a hiccup at Verizon or something.

I can go back to the same exact spot, it's in a part of the building where I work, I'll try to replicate it tomorrow
