What happened to the built-in ringtones?

Newbie
Just got a new Motorola phone with 9.0 installed. Went to settings - sounds to pick a ringtone only to discover that there weren't any! Is there a site where I can download the ringtones that came with 7.0?
 
There is a phone ringtone option. But there are no files to choose from. Do some 9.0 phones still offer built in choices?
 
Odd.. Whenever I had my 9.0 software on my edge plus, it really flooded the systems filled with default ring tones, I do not use them at all though.
I rather look on the pop up menu :)
 
Another idea. Can you transfer ringtone files from a phone that has them to a PC where you could then transfer them to a different phone? I pugged in my 7.0 HTC phone but couldn't find the ringtone files. Anyone know if they are accessible? If so where are they?

It is usually the com.android file if you are going to search via windows ten :)
 
Built-in ringtones are probably in /data somewhere, so you'll need root to access them. At any rate that's been the case on every Android phone I've owned, including HTC. Some apps may put tones in Android/media, though system ringtones don't seem to be there (and looking in Android/Data for the system sound picker didn't get me anywhere on my unrooted Pixel - you may have more luck on your device).

But you can use any mp3, m4a, ogg or various other formats. Just find a sound file you like, copy it to /Ringtones in your internal storage, and your phone should find it. That's probably the fastest way, do a web search for the sort of thing you are looking for.

thanks Hadron. you've explained why I have a few ringtones that I didn't download but also can't find when I check the phone's folders from my PC.

Now that I realize how big the ringtone universe is, I see understand why Motorola didn't both providing any. Seems that only old farts like me had never felt the need to stray from the ones that came with all of my previous phones.

Nah you are not too old, hell I might as well put my hat in the ring too.
