What happened to the Google Now Jingle?? - Google

Ryrozay87

Lurker
I've noticed that when I tap the Microphone on Google Now it no longer plays the little jingle as the app opens. I know this is a meaningless thing bit oddly, I miss it. Anyone else notice?

Mine still makes the same sound it always has... Not really a jingle but closer to a beep. Does yours make any sound at all?

Nothing at all. I have a GS7 Edge and all it does now is vibrate when I tap the mic or say "Ok Google". A buddy of mine said it's happening to him as well and he has a Nexus 6P. Very odd.

Do you know which update? I am on the latest N, keep updated to the latest and never had this issue. Curious.

Google app update, maybe?

I'm on Nougat with the latest beta of that as well, but still get the little chirp - unless my media volume is muted.

Ios change there look fairly drastic but lets be fair android update are never a big change.unless you use nova or a launcher also the experience varies by device. Why wait for noughat ?! The updates are always late and never actually majot

I did a bit more digging into this and found a post at the Google Search Help Forum which shines some light on the strange new behavior:

Hi there,

Thanks all for reporting this into the community forum! The changes are an intended experimental feature that we are testing to improve the user experience and latency on voice search. That being said, we do welcome your feedback and appreciate your thoughts to help make our product better!

To submit your feedback to the product team directly, please submit in product feedback at Menu > Send feedback. Thanks!

Cheers,

AJ, Google Search Community Manager

So it's not a fix, but I'd recommend following AJ's suggestion to submit feedback directly within the Google app to let Google know how you feel about this change.
