Help What Happens When Switched To WiFi

I have just never been prompted to use my cellular WiFi much and have Googled but get answers that are all over the place......

I just want to know what happens with voice calls if anything when I swap to wifi?
I live in an area that really needs a network extender but I get by. The biggest symptom is callers saying the phone rang 5 times when I only heard it ring once before answering.

Any other explanations towards running WiFi at home vs # or 4G wold be great.

I run Comcast cable with a Trendnet TEW-GR639 that runs pretty good.

Wifi should make your battery last longer than using 3G/4G. Unless you're making VOIP calls over the Internet, then turning on Wifi shouldn't prevent you from making phone calls nor should it interfere with you receiving phone calls.
