What if I delete the Gmail account...?

Does anyone know what happens if I go into Gmail and "Close account and delete all services and info associated with it" for the account that the Android phone is connected to?

Is this a viable way to change the default gmail account connected to the phone, without having to do a factory reset?

you cant remove a gmail account if it is the primary. The only way to remove is with a hard reset. no way around that

Well... maybe I was unclear... The question was: what happens if I delete the gmail account when logged in to it, on my computer. There is the possibility there to delete the account, but what happens with the phone?

If you're concerned about Android Market access with no Gmail account, use other sources for the apps you want, such as getjar, slideme, andappstore, etc. You'll see appbrain mentioned here often, as well.
