Lurker
I just got my bionic and have started slowly and cautiously to get into this root thing. I rooted got tit backup started messing with sqlite. I have become comfortable and wanted to install my first ROM today, however I have been reading about 893 all day and have no idea what it is. I have read countless threads and can not draw any conclusions. Can someone help.

Its the latest test update from Moto the number is .893 but its not official that it will actually be the OTA.. the stock build is .886 (it might have been 876 I dont have my bionic with me right now sorry) you can check this in the settings about phone

Just got my bionic yesterday....Almost have the same Doubts!
This is what i am so far..

Already did the Bootstrap app recovery, install Rom manager and did the CWM recovery too.. Did the maintain root thing too with root explorer.

Download the liberty rom from TOOLBOX app.. thats where i am! but not sure if i can flash that room if i still have the .886 version.

You can. If you flashed the .893 OTA update the kernel and radio will stay but the system will go back to .886.

No, I didnt flash the .893 ota update yet, Just did the "chmod 4755/system/bin/su" thing. thats where i have my doubts, For me to flash a rom like llberty do i have to flash the ota .893 update first?

No, but you'll basically be just flashing a ROM over your current .886 system, so everything about it (kernel, radio, etc) will be the same as you have it now.
