As the subject suggest I am looking for a decent bitrate. I am ripping movies for my Nexus 7. I am on a Linux system (Fedora 17x64) I wish to have good quality movies I'm not so much worried about space.
it would seem that this question is not so easily answered. I have searched the webz and found that it really depends on several different factors. I have been experimenting with different rates on different dvd's and so far I have found for me that 2500 seems to be a good rate. This makes the file size bigger here are some examples
Conan the Barbarian encoded at 2500 bitrate with a 720x480 screen is 2.6gigs
Gladiator encoded at 2500 bitrate at 720x480 screen is 3.4gigs
V for Vendetta at 2500 bitrate at 720x480 screen is 2.0gigs
If size does not matter to you then a higher bitrate may be better. All will depend on the size of the screen with the bitrate for video as well as the bitrate for audio
I'm still playing around and if anyone out there has some pointers I'm all ears or eyes in this case
