What is Android?

Hi, I am a novice to computers and I know nothing about Android. I have just bought my wife her first computer, Acer d250 netbook. It is running on windows 7, and I have just taken it out of the box for the first time to learn it. I have not powered it up yet. "Instant - on for Anroid" is one of the booklets in the box. What does it do, must I use it, can I still use windows 7, is it ok to install it as the first task I do? Sorry to sound such a numpty. HELP !!

These are forums for android phones and not netbooks ...

But My question is did you read the booklet... or call for help in the literature that came with the computer ?
