Help what is CLOUD ?

i just downloaded jellybean..i am on VERIZON and in my settings i now have something called CLOUD..im confused.is it like a back up assist? why would we need 2 of them?
 
The cloud in general is your own personal online storage. I presume the cloud app on your phone is an app put there by Verizon to backup apps, data and settings to online storage provided by them?
 
i would assume youre correct,than you for answering..but isnt that what back up assist is for? im so confused on why we need 2 backup apps
 
Backup assistant allows you to backup all your files automatically but is mostly for messages, and settings etc. The cloud drives are basically just like storage areas, like having a SD card in your p[hone. you can also access the files from your computer. I upload videos that are really large to cloud storage and then share them with others. It's a great way to share huge files. Also you can use dropbox and skydrive and others as well.
