What is kies regarding android?

I have seen the word "KIES" in the recent past while i am searching for updates for android.. But what is that. I have also seen a twitter accountAlso pls explain me is cynagemod and kies related to each other? if yes what is that?

Kies is the official software from Samsung which you use for updates or backups, sort of like PC Suite/Ovi Suite for Nokia, PC Companion for Sony, and HTC Sync for HTC. You can use that to get official updates.

CyanogenMod is a third party ROM for your phone. Its sort of a clean optimized and faster version of Android than the ones the manufacturers put on our phones (because it lacks the bloatware). You have to root your phone to get it.

thank's very much for clearing this but are there any other third party rom's like cyanogenMod for android? And what is the exact meaning of Flashing with ODIN?

Not really sure about ODIN, as I never bothered flashing my ROM, But from what I remember, ODIN is sort of a Cyanogen competitor(?) and when you "flash" it, basically it means you replace your existing software (made by whoever built your phone HTC/Samsung/Moto/Sony etc) with one made by Odin or Cyanogen.

CyanogenMod requires ClockworkMod recovery to flash .It's a custom recovery of phone

In contrast Samsung ROM's can be flashed using Odin which is a flashing tool for Windows.

Samsung stock firmwares can be flashed via odin .

Also Samsung custom ROMs (Like mine ,Arkas for galaxy 551) can be flashed via odin

Thank you guys for helping me out..but if i root a mobile (say galaxy ace) can i overclock the processor. If yes, is there any app for safe overclocking? And also say overclocking can only be done when we flashed with custom ROM? or can be overclocked with rooted and running with stock ROM(say XWKPO or XXKPH)? Sorry for any mistakes....

NO
Stock ROMs have stock kernels and the usual governor is ondemand and the speed is locked at maximum .
Custom ROMs are of many types .
Those with modified kernels usually allow overclocking .
There is no such thing as safe overclocking .
Mind you 1Ghz O/c V6 Galaxy Ace will never be equal to 800 Mhz V7 say Motorola Defy .
V7 processors are superior to V6

How to root Samsung Epic 4G on EF02 Gingerbread 2.3

what is "EFO2" in the above line?I found this somewhere in the forum..

How to flash the EG22 Modem with Odin

what is "EG22 Modem"?

From what I know E stands for the year 2011
F stands for June ,02 is the date
The firmware was made on 2nd June 2011

In the same manner the EG22 modem is the modem released on 22nd July 2011

EG22 has to be flashed using Odin with the amss_phone or modem or whatever file it is in the phone section(There are five sections Bootloader,Phone,CSC,PDA,EFS)
Radio or modem dictates the 3G/4G data ,bluetooth and WIFi performance of the phone .Also since the radio is directly responsible for most battery discharge ,the battery usage is also partly dictated by radio/modem/amss_phone

The samsung Epic community looks pretty good so rooting questions and doubts can be better solved by them

BTW KIES is the most useless annoying software in the history of android . Pathetic. Drivel .Joke .

Hi there feroz121, you might want to take a look at the OP of this thread.

[ACS] [HOW TO] Root, Flash Roms/Kernels/Themes, CWM, and update! (67 videos) 8/7/11 - xda-developers

QBKing77 has made a thread on xda containing links to a bunch of youtube how to videos that he has made for the Epic 4G, containing step by step explanations on how to do a bunch of stuff with the Epic. Currently cyanogenmod is only available in alpha state for the Epic, they need the 2.3 gingerbread source code for further development for our phone. That being said, there are many custom ROM's available, as well as videos for how to update to gingerbread (must be rooted to do all of this stuff, but there's a video on how to root, and its a pretty easy method).

Note - the ones in bolded in QBKing77's thread are the most recent videos for our phone.
