What is ROOT ACCESS and how do I do it ?!

I installed two separate screen capture programs, and they both won't work without ROOT.

ugh, I just came from my trusty blackberry, and a screen capture program was used so often, I had set my convenience key to do it, that button made so much sense !

What programs does everyone else use?! I am very new to Droid stuff, so any help would be appreciated !

If you're very new to Android, you may want to search for other methods of taking a screenshot (one involves downloading some software to your desktop and plugging in the phone via USB). Rooting should only be done when your comfortable with some of the ins and outs
