What is system data? Should I delete it? It is taking up all my space

My LG phone keeps saying I'm running out of storage space. It says "system data" is using 3.78GB of the 4GB I have. What is system data and should I delete it?

System data cannot be deleted. However, you can go to settings >> apps and look for your downloaded apps, then see if you find a system app in the list (like Google play services), then hit uninstall updates. Note that this may cause "update Google play services" to pop up on some apps. But this is the only option if system is taking so much space...

OMG. I have been trying to find someone, off and on, with a solution to this problem for 2 years and your answer has been the best ever. I did what you said and immediately I started clearing up some space. I haven't seen the 'system data' change yet, it's only been a few minutes but thumbs up so far. Further I didn't know I could switch some apps to my sd card. Clearly I am not savvy but this made it simple. Thank you.

On some phones you can even fully uninstall play services and only some apps will have an issue with that.
You can also movee some apps to your sd card that should free up some space

Your instruction along with 1 other was the best I've seen in 2 years. Thank you so much. I never know what apps and can or can not uninstall on my LG android but as soon as I uninstalled play services, voila.
