Help what is the best way to backup everything?

Is there any app out there that will back up everything on my phone (apps, screen layouts, sound settings etc.?)

I know my contacts and email are stored on google and/or t-mobile servers, but it would be nice to know that if I lost my phone or if the OS needed to be re-installed, I could just get my phone back like it used to be without much hassle. At this point, I wouldn't even be able to remember all of the different things I've installed on my phone to get it to where it is now...don't want to start over.

btw...I'm on v2.2.1 and not rooted. thanks

However, apps like Astro can backup your market apps to SD, then again the "My Apps" selection in Market keeps a list/account of all you r purchased apps so you can download the again. Data gmail and contacts can be backed up to Google and Exchange of course remains on the servers. All in all I agree not a very elegant solution when compared to my old Blackberry. Still the benefits of Android to me still outweigh the gotchas.

So if your phone IS rooted, is there a way to back up all of your settings?

yes, an app called ROM manager. its easy to use. a couple clicks and your done. it saves your back up to the sd card. if you want to be extra careful, copy the back up to an ext hdd or desktop/laptop. you never know if u may lose your phone or if the sd card gets corrupted. (a back up for your backup)
