What is the best way to backup or sync data?

I have been trying to figure this out and having no luck. What I really care most about is backing up data from certain apps, documents, and pictures. You probably can't restore certain game data so I won't worry too much about that, but some apps have either automatic backups to SD card or manual ways to export to SD cards. What I would like to do is have an automatic way to backup that SD card to the cloud or my PC. I have Astro and it sounded like there is a way to backup with that but the only thing I could find was a way to manually copy it over. As far as backing up apps, is that really even necessary? If you were to lose your phone or trash it, wouldn't they already be backed up with Google? And as far as pictures taken with the phone, they automatically go to my computer with MotoCast so I am not too concerned about that either. Just would love to hear some thoughts on how you guys backup.

I have the same question before loading JB. I was searching for an answer when I came across your post. Hopefully someone will have an answer. Thanks for the question.

I don't know with an unrooted phone. Apps are definitely backed up in the play store, you just need to download them over again. Pictures are generally saved to the SD, so even if you didn't back them up with the PC, you should be good there.

*edit... not app data though. It's not backed up. Root, I believe, is the only way to backup app data

After messing around, I found FolderSync to do what I need. I'm not really that concerned about backing up game data, but I have a few apps that do auto backups of their data to the SD card so then I set up FolderSync to automatically backup those files on the SD card to Google Drive so I don't have to worry about remembering to copy them over myself.
