can you give us a better reference on what you are talking about? where are you seeing this? what device do you have?
messenger and smart message sounds like apps. while messaging and messages are just that.

Well "messaging" is a verb, meaning to send a message to another party, like via SMS, MMS, Whatsapp, etc. "messages" refers to actual messages of course, again like in SMS, MMS, etc. As for "Messenger" and "smart messages", those sound like they might be some particular messaging services?
