Root What is the most current root method?

Thanks, but...

The one-click tool is no longer available from XDA

And the Universal Root tool is not working. Maybe it doesn't work on 4.1.2? Can't even get drivers installed (says MZ604 - no driver found).

Oh well, just wanted to learn rooting on something other than my phone.

Thanks OOP, that worked to get drivers installed.

Now I am stuck at flashing recovery (Step 3.3) and get the error message "cannot load 'recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img'"

It is probably because the instructions never say WHERE to save the recovery image downloaded in step 3.1 :-)

Edit:
I guessed that it needs to be saved to the SDK_tools directory. So it worked and flashed from there. Took a number of reboots but it eventually flashed and rooted.

Now all I need to do if figure out what ROM to flash :-)

Thanks.

what recovery are you using if not TWRP I would switch.

1. download twrp from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782235 put it on your sd card and flash with your current recovery. reboot

2. download bb8 and the GappsInverted-unified zips and put both on your sd card (root is easiest for beginers)

3. reboot into twrp recovery

4. select back up and back up your current system

5.select wipe and then system should say wiping rom. when done back out to main page.

6.click install, locate bb8 select then click back and select the gapps you downloaded

7. slide finger across to install both. ( if gapps fail don't worry back out (do not reboot) to install and select the gapps package again an install.

8. reboot and sign back into google. If you want some apps that are missing such as gmail or calender go here download the apps you want and move them to system/apps using a file manager. then you have to change the permissions for them to work. If you don't now i will write it up for you.

For step 1, which twrp file should I d/l and save? There are a number of choices on the linked page:

Install_Scripts_R.A.H.v3_TWRPv2.5.0.zip - 11.61 MB
R.A.H.v3_TWRPv2.5.0.img - 5.64 MB
R.A.H.v3_TWRPv2.5.0.zip - 5.75 MB

And then there are a number of different versions of twrp (clicking "show content")

And then there is this:
TWRPv 2.4.1.0 for XOOM

Sorry I should have specified. This is the one you want R.A.H.v3_TWRPv2.5.0.zip - 5.75 MB

Also download this app quick boot it will give you the option to boot into recovery with one click making things easy.

At Step 5, I can select to wipe:
Dalvik Cache
sdcard
system
cache
data

Which one(s) should be wiped?

Edit: I selected "system" only. Then flashed BB8 and gapps successfully. Then selected reboot from the twrp menu.

It rebooted but the screen is stuck on the second Baked animated logo (with the spinning circle). Been that way for 10 minutes. Tried a reboot and it gets stuck at the same spot.

Tried wiping Dalvik, system and cache. Re-flashed BB8 and gapps. Same result. Stuck on logo.

Restore your back up you made in recovery. Redownload bb8 and try it again, you might have gotten a bad download.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you been sick.

Wow, sorry that you're sick. Hope you feel better soon.

And thanks for the advice. I redownloaded, flashed and it booted to bb8. Must have been a corrupt d/l.

So clean, and the options are amazing. It's going to take me days to play with it and tweak the settings.

Thanks!
