"What is this icon?"

it's on the right hand side of my notification bar. I've never seen it before.
Anyone know what it is?

Post below has pic

Here's a pic that shows the symbol

Is there any way of figuring out what notification it is?
AND.....how do I delete it from the status bar?

Thanks

Check out this video:

As best as I can explain,it's basically a "Do Not Disturb" mode, which you can tweak to allow certains apps/notifications to come through, regardless of the do not disturb times you set.
The Alarm clock would be the 1st exception that comes to mind where this would be helpful,
Another would be calls from family/work/etc.........
Cool stuff, but, some think the U/I of this feature could have been done a bit different/better.....

What a PITA.............. All I want to do is find out what app caused the notification and how to make the start go away!

Hate this!

If you see a crescent moon in the notification bar,I believe it means you got a notification during "quiet hours",from an app/function that is not in the exceptions.
I'll be back on later today,I'll look around for more thorough videos that give a better explanation on how to best use these features.

In the meantime,if you just want to get rid of the star icon, the above linked video shows how (go to the 3:40 mark in the video).
I think if you hit you volume rocker & when the volume slider(s) appear, select "ALL" & the star should disappear.
I'm not 100% certain on that & ATM cannot verify,as I'm running ANDROID M at the moment & they've changed notifications yet again.......................

Here's another video that (perhaps) better explains how to set-up priority notifications :

You have been of great help:)
Thanks so much!!!
Managed to get rid of the star but still have no idea why it appeared?

The star appears when you are in Priority Notifications mode - it is not a notification itself. You can either toggle it off and on manually under Notification settings, or set it to come on at certain days and times. I have mine set to activate from 1 am to 7 am every night. It's basically a "Do Not Disturb" mode that Google did a poor job of naming. I read somewhere that Android M is supposed to improve/clarify the functionality.
