what is this on my status bar!?!?!?

I bought a phone from someone and I am wondering if it's possible for it to be hacked. Even after I have factory cleared and reset the phone. There is a symbol that looks like two sideways z's that come up beside the "vibrate" symbol that I didnt recognize as a normal sign. Don't know what is is or if it even does anything.

this is a screen shot so u can see the funny symbol to the left of the vibration symbol.

It's an HTC one and clearly it's framework has been messed with, the battery is also gray.. not green. What does this all mean? And can I remove it.. maybe by rooting it myself?

Under the top part of settings, "wireless and networks", tap "more" and then uncheck "NFC". Near Field Commication is the feature that allows you to transfer data by tapping two phones together. I don't have anything regarding the color of your battery icon.
