What Phone Should I Get?

Will only use for talk & text, and not very much. Might use very rarely for driving directions if I can connect to wifi (won't get a data plan). Must be a Sprint phone. Budget is $50-$60, but the cheaper the better. :smokingsomb::smokingsomb:

Was looking at the LG Optimus S, LG Marquee, and a few others. Don't care about condition, just if it works for above purpose. Feel free to name as many phones that come to mind that fit this criteria so I can research them.

In that case.. i'd skip the smartphone thing alltogether and go for a standard handset.

Its cheaper, won't need a dataplan, will let you talk and text, will have a battery life that will last for days (weeks?) on a single charge and is more robust when it comes to physical damage etc.

I just recommended to my boss to buy a Samsung Epic 4G. It's a pretty dated version of the Galaxy S(1). He is using Ting as his provider and seems happy with it. Very cheap plan, small amount of data but his usage sounds just like yours.
You can cache maps if you're on wifi to use without data if you need.

Thanks. Got it down to a few choices so far (below). Forgot about the Samsungs though. I still want a bar form factor though because I like texting on a touchpad. Could I do this on the Epic 4G? I know it has a QWERTY keypad too, right?

I imagine there are some amazing bargains around on Blackberrys at the moment ;)

They have(/had?) good keyboards.

Totally agree. If you only need talk and text then (on Sprint) the BB9650 is the way to go.

I am a longtime BB user. Switched this year because of app selection and the need for a functional browser.

Ting currently has several Sprint phones around that price range, including the Optimus S and HTC EVO 4G. Also a used Nexus S for $72.

Ting uses the Sprint network and has pretty low rates, plus they don't require a data plan so that sounds like it will work for you.

If you go with Ting you'll find my signature below very helpful ;)

Ended up finding a sweet deal on a Samsung Transform Ultra for under $15 believe it or not. In great condition too. Took a lot of research, and was super lucky to find it. Thanks for the help.
