here is a paste from the verizon forums, for what its worth

"Here's the response I got from Verizon Wireless Customer Service. I've removed some personal information but indicated by [removed]:
Original email:
I'm going to be getting the Droid and I'm very confused about what plan/features I need. I'm an individual currently with a low monthly plan with mobile web. Which do I need (or are there other options as well)?

Stick with what I have (has mobile web but it seems to use minutes?)
Stick with what I have and add Data plan ($29, I think)
Individual Connect Plan (has unlimited Data)
PDA/Smartphone Email or Email/Messaging Plan

Very confused, please help.

Verizon Wireless Customer Service response:
Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. My name is [removed], and I am happy to assist you regarding the calling plans and features associated with the new Droid device. I can certainly understand your concern with the calling plans and features associated the Droid; this is definitely one of the most anticipated devices Verizon Wireless has launched.

[removed], the calling plans will vary depending on which Droid you will be purchasing. Below I have listed the calling plans associated with each device.

If you will be purchasing the Motorola Droid, you are able to choose from the following plans:

- The Nationwide Connect 450 Plan. This plan includes 450 Anytime minutes, Unlimited Night and Weekend minutes, Unlimited Mobile-to-Mobile minutes, Unlimited Text, Picture and Video messaging, Unlimited Web access, and Mobile E-mail for [removed] a month. (Best option)

- The Nationwide Basic 450 Plan. This plan includes 450 Anytime minutes, Unlimited Night and Weekend minutes, and Unlimited Mobile-to-Mobile minutes for [removed]. Keep your current Text message feature at the cost of [removed] a month and add one of the data features to your account:

If the Droid can be purchased with the Connect Plan, that would be a true gamechanger. I guess we'll have to wait until Nov 6.

Tethering is not included in the $45 data feature. The only difference is exchange. If you don't use exchange than save yourself some money and go with the Personal Email and Web feature for $29.99.

If the exchange connection is anything like the one with Windows Mobile then you can still use Exchange with the $30 plan. I use it now on my Omnia with the $30 plan.

these verizon plans confuse the crap out of me... i just went to bestbuy and my local verizon store, both of them told me different things.

bestbuy said all i need is the "nationwide connect plan" for $69.99.
at the verizon store they told me i need the connect plan PLUS another data plan.

hmpf.

I know it seems really confusing, even the VZW reseller here couldn't tell me what plan(s) I needed. But if you check on the video walkthrough they posted a few days ago from VZW it says on the same page that you need either the 29.99 email and web for smartphone OR unlimited data for 44.99. The Connect and Premium plans are not needed at all and won't provide data for the Droid. The choose from the Basic and Select plans (Select others unlim messaging, Basic is just minutes), then add on one of those 2 features I mentioned a minute ago.

I have the $29.95 unlimited data plan with my TP2 (getting DROID Fri.) and it does work with MS Exchange, you just have to have OWA and connect using your web URL. Works perfectly and syncs all my email with folders, contacts, calendar, tasks and will even allow me to search the server. No need to pay the extra $15 if you have OWA (Outlook Web Access).

I'm super excited to be switching to Android. I can barely wait! :D

i just talked to a verizon rep via their website. he said all i need is the $39 plan + $29 data.

if so then i will be buying a droid. hooray!

Hey guys. I had a quick question about two different plans with Verizon.

I'm planning on buying the droid (or similar android device) in the few upcoming weeks. I looked over the plans for android phones and ... here's what confuses me:

Plan #1: If you go here and enter your zip code, and look at the "PDA/Smartphone Nationwide Email" plan for $79.99 - it includes:
1.) 450 minutes,
2.) unlimited mobile to mobile,
3.) unlimited night/weekends,
4.) Domestic long distance,
5.) Unlimited web browsing/email
6.) and $.20/message texting
--$79.99/month.

Plan #2: If you go to the same link, and select the 39.99 voice plan (Nationwide Basic 450), then add the $29.99 Data plan for Smartphones, then add $5 texting plan - it comes out to $75/month and includes:
1.) 450 minutes,
2.) unlimited mobile to mobile,
3.) unlimited night/weekends,
4.) Domestic long distance,
5.) Unlimited web browsing/email
6.) 250 text messages/month
--$74.99/month.

So wtf? Why would anyone select the $80 plan and pay 20 cents/txt rather than the $40 voice plan and add the same stuff in the $80 plan PLUS 250 text messages for LESS monthly cost?

I'm must be missing something, right? What am I missing? :(

I'm assuming both include GPS since they are android phones, right? Or is that what the $80 plan has over the $75?

Thanks.
