Root What Rom to Use

I'm thinking about rooting my tablet and flashing a rom. I have a few questions.

1. What is the most reliable and quick rom out there?
2. Should I do it before the update comes? expected 27th of April.
3. What is the process of going from 3.2.1 Honeycomb to the rooted rom?
(I have done some research, but still unclear about a few things. I would just like to know how you guys do it to compare.)

Thanks!

1. I think that the majority of the custom ROM's are ok... the bonus of rooting is that you can try several until you settle on one that you like (I am on Taboonay's ICS ROM, but think I am going to be changing to CM9 (as I love the CyanogenMod team's ROM's))

2. In the past, when an update has come out, it has not been instantly rootable... if try to root after the update, you may have to wait until a root exploit is found (you may not though)... you just have to decide if you would be able to wait if needed.

3. If you have a look at http://androidforums.com/iconia-tab...3-acer-iconia-a500-all-things-root-guide.html there is an All Things Root Guide sticky that has some different procedures for rooting (I used the one with the video that is linked in the sticky, but others have used quacles' rooting guide - 2nd in the list)

It's not usually a good idea to accept an OTA if you are rooted. I think that the only way for you to actually get one whilst rooted is if you are running a rooted stock ROM... I don't think that you would even receive an update notification if you were running a custom ROM.

You might receive a notification, but if you try to download, it may fail. Any number of bad things can happen if you take an official update while rooted.

It's best just to check in and see if there is a rooted version of the OTA available. There usually is the same day. Considering how quickly the A500 devs managed to turn a leaked ICS ROM from Acer into a fully functional ROM, I'd bet it wouldn't be more than 2 days after official ICS comes that we'll have a rooted variant of it.

So no need to wonder about the OTA :)

I was running Taboonay's ICS ROM for about a month, switched to Flexreapers ROM for a day or so and then came across the latest UPDATE.zip and loaded that. So, you can bounce around after rooting, even install the official update while rooted. I never got a notification that it was available however. I even installed the update using clockworks recovery vs. going back to a stock configuration and starting over. The latest update is already rootable.

Try Flexreaper R14 its the most stable as of right now. There are more issues with Thors right now. I read both threads daily and I have used both. I love all of Thors work but for the last month I have used Civato's Flexreaper and it very nice and totally stable. I dont have one issue with this ROM.
