What root and 500 pages :*(

I've just bought a hero 'chin ' phone, the person who i bought it off, bought it cash, unlocked from carphone warehouse, then used it on Orange, it's remained unlocked and i've stuck my Asda payg sim in.

Have just installed 16GB SD card, and have spent hours tying to root etc, as the phone needs stripping of things to run at a decent speed.

It shows formware 2.1 update 1 and soft version 3.36.405.1

Which guide should i use ? ta :

Ok, it looks like i have rooted,as it says i have, although superuser shows no apps in list ?

I've downloaded HTC Hero Cronos Ginger X 2.4.0 (Android 2.3.9)

and gapps, don't know what to do with either of them, as wanted to overclock.

Any pointers, i've spent hours trying to figure it out and reading up, have not just made a thread and expect it done for me, but some pointers would be nice.

Spent the last 5 years on a basic call phone, noob to this smart phone malarky and esp android ..
