what texting app do you use?

Stock app is OK but I don't like the Android emoticons so I use Pansi. Despite the slightly ga... err I mean flowery name its pretty fast and customisable. Also has no ads.

Might give Go a go given the comments on here. Would go back yo stock if I could change the icons.

My problem with Go is the lack of anything pure black. It REALLY annoys me on Go Launcher, its only fault really

Never noticed that really, damn it why did you mention it, I'm almost guaranteed to notice and pick fault.

I use Handcent. Not sure what people are referring to with ads as I've never had any! Or if I have, they must be in only certain areas of the program as I certainly haven't seen them.
I like it is as it's very customisable and seems stable and quick after 12 months of use. Haven't used any other apart from the Stock app, and I found it a little bland.

one of the reasons I scrapped it as well...the stock android one has a white or black theme...and its black...more bloody black than GO....I had to use a 'dark theme' which had a honeycomb android in the title...which I hated but was the closest I could get

What do you mean by that? You can customise the background colours on GO to black (that's what I do).

Or have I missed something?

I think it's the rest of the UI that's the issue.

However, this page has two dark themes for Go SMS (posted today):
[APP] GO Sms Pro V3.68 is released - Page 333 - xda-developers

That said I've recently had an issue where if I reboot the phone Go SMS rings once on start-up, and I get a notification of all the texts since the last reboot. I've done a search but haven't found anything (yet - still looking through that thread above). Anyone else seen this?

Yeah all sorts of UI things accross the Go Range. Its alright being "black" or dark, but if its not pure black, its irrelevant

Please forgive me if I missed something, but I don't understand. Forgetting the themes for a second, you can actually customise the background colour yourself to completely black.

Menu > Settings > Appearance Settings > Conv. List customisation > Background and then move all the sliders to the left. This will make it black.

You can also do the same with each conversation too.

Also, I've never had the bootup/notification issue.

I am talking about Go in general, not specifically go SMS.

Go Launcher > Evil light grey menu background when pressing menu from Homescreen

Go Contacts > No black background option on contacts list

Go SMS > I cant find the settings to which you refer:

I think you either have an old version or are running in Lite mode. You need to be in Normal or Pro mode to see the Inbox Customization or Conversation Customization options, but they would appear in the menu you have just posted. I've just changed the settings myself to give it a pure black background, so I know it can be done.

You're right, it was cause I was in light mode. Didn't like the fact that it kept the blue header and background in messages (I guess these can also be changed but what a faff)...

But I still prefer the stock one :)

If you download and apply the Dark theme you can get round the blue bar. I found the Dark theme with a custom fully black background perfect for my tastes.

Also, I've never had the bootup/notification issue.

It only started since I switched to Redux 2 (I mean sometime since it wasn't that switch that started it) which is probably about a fortnight. I've sinece moved to dGB and it's still there - and became more irritating as that process plus some other config required a number of reboots.

I've uninstalled for now, but may put it back once everything's settled down. I'll also, while I'm Go free, try out the other SMS apps again.

I suppose an app that passes a temp, resized copy of an image to stock might do the trick. Might search for that.

Went back and forth between Go and Handcent, no sticking with Go. Its just smoother on my phone (Samsung Galaxy SL).

I have used Go for ages. I just downloaded it on my mom's phone so she could see the cute android emoticons I sent her. I love it, never had a reason to stray. They are so innovative, always with the improvements and new features. I like the new doodle feature, I send them to my sister all the time.

Go is the best. Love the customization. Like the voice messages. Super fast. Have tried Handscent which is also very good, but just seems to lag on my phone, where GO flies.. even in Pro Mode.
