Hey guys,

So for the past couple of weeks I've been researching on different Android phones as I'm planning to buy one at this end of this week. I have a couple of options on me right now but it's really hard to decide which one I should go with.

Any words would be appreciated ;)

At first, I thought that buying a phone from my carrier(Rogers) would be a better idea since the device would be "carrier-specific"and will be covered(or less painful) if the device breaks down. Only downside is that, Rogers doesn't offer newer devices such as GNex and GNote. So my options break down to Razr and Galaxy S2 LTE from Rogers.

1) Galaxy S2 LTE - Rumors say that this specific model had flaws with its display so Samsung released a revised version called the Galaxy S2 HD. Do you think it's still worth getting?

2) Razr - Most of the reviews that I read were "so-so" and were behind other newer devices in benchmarks.

My other option was buying either GNexus or GNote online but these devices won't have wall adapters that would fit on Canadian standards. Plus if it breaks, I won't have much choice but to buy a new device or pay that much money to get it repaired.

3) GNex - Despite the cons that I've written above GNex looks promising as it will be getting Flash support for web browsing which I consider as a huge plus because the rest of the devices won't be getting one.

4) GNote - As for GNote, larger screen with a stylus would really make using this phone more interesting. I'm actually leaning towards buying this one.

What would you do?

Thanks again!

Welcome to AF :D

Moved to the Android Lounge since this is Android specific

With your choices I would choose either the SGSII LTE or the GNex. I personally am not a big fan of Motorola. The only reason I am not sure about the Gnote is I am not all that familiar with it and I don't like the stylus. The SGSII has better specs than the Gnote but still has Touchwiz. The GNex is pure android with no touchwiz UI.

All the phones you listed have Flash support other than the GNex currently, but once flash is updated by Adobe it will also have flash support.

Adobe has announced that they will stop developing Flash for mobile devices. So, as I'm sure Google / Samsung don't want to get into any more of a patent war, I doubt the GNex will be getting any special flash development that isn't available to any other device.

And, for the record, all of those devices will have Flash.

Honestly, I think you are between the Galaxy S2 LTE and GNote. If you don't have LTE in your area, and can bear the size of the GNote, then I'd suggest the GNote. If you have LTE and have doubts about the size, go S2 LTE.

If the displays have problems, Samsung will fix them. They'd lose too much from future business if they did not.

My first advice: Dump Rogers, go with Mobi or Wind! (unless you don't have a choice in your area :()

Rogers should be getting the Nexus in January. If you need a phone now, get the S2. It's faster than the Nexus anyway. I personally prefer the Nexus, but it's not like the S2 is an inferior phone. If you can wait, then you can just pick up the Nexus in about a month. You really can't go wrong with either phone.

Don't order online, especially from Europe or Asia or wherever it is you plan on ordering from. Too much money to be playing around with. You'll be shelling out $800+ for a phone without warranty.

Thanks guys!

I always thought that the S2 LTE has been out for a while but I was wrong! And now that I know the S2 LTE has flash support for web browsing, I have no reason not to go with it.

Also I just checked My Rogers, and for some mysterious reason, I qualify for another phone upgrade so I just have to pay $149 + 3 yr contract. Funny.. I switched to BB 9900 just last month  Now I just have to find out if you pay extra for using LTE data.

As for the GNote, the price seems to go down everyday and it's down to $700 CAD + Free shipping.

Anyways, thanks again for all the information you guys shared.

I will post a couple of pictures after getting the new phone.

:p

I've seen some warnings on another board about the LTE S2 possibly turning out to be a samsung franken-phone like a lot of the US GS variants did, since it has a completely different soc (qualcomm I think) than any of the other s2s. They are all wary (being a bunch of former gs-variant owners who got screwed on bad or non-existent updates) about what will happen here come ics time.

Now I just have to find out if you pay extra for using LTE data.

With Rogers you will need to purchase an LTE plan in order to use LTE which does cost more each month. You can choose not to and use it on existing networks only if you wish to save the money.

Thanks guys, for all the replies.

So today I went to the local Rogers dealer and grabbed the S2 LTE. It's fast, and feels great in my hands. One thing though, when I go to the Task manager -> RAM, it shows my RAM status as 344MB / 785MB. Does this look right? My understanding was that this devices is 1G in RAM. Maybe I'm not understanding that numbers correctly?

Other than that, I love it!
