Help what video format to use and what apps to use

Hey guys,
I'm trying to load up my phone with some movies.

I'm using handbreak to convert the mondo HD sized movies using the settings I normally use for my Ipod Touch. When I transfer it to the SD and try to watch via the Files button in Froyo it says it can't play the video.

Is there an app i can use to watch the video or do I need to be converting it differently? I believe it is in MP4 format now and I think my only other option is mkv.

Thanks for your help!

also, could it be an issue with the dimensions i converted the video to? I tried to maximize the resolution based on the Xes screen resolution.

Thanks again.

When I convert my movies for my phone I convert them to MP4. The only thing I can think of is that while its getting converted it might be corupt and the X can't read it.

figured it out, it was a resolution issue. Dropped down to 480 width and maintained aspect ratio and it works fine. Anyone know the maximum i can use?

The resolution of the X is 854x480, so 854 is the widest you can go on the screen. You can go higher, but there's no benefit on the screen unless you're outputting via HDMI to something better.

I just got the avi files like they are, dragged em to a file on my sd card and they play. They look really good but idk if its the fps or what but there a bit choppy, noting extreme but I do notice it you think if I convert the files to mp4 or somethin they might be smoother? Any ideas for amoother playback?

i haven't had any issues one i stepped the resolution down, i may try with a smaller video file to step up until i hit the limit that will work.
