What would happen if I installed a ROM and..

So as some of you may know, my phone is having a problem, which is that when I root it, it unroots itself, usually when I reboot.

So if I installed a custom ROM, say cyanogenmod, WHILE i was rooted, and then the next day my phone unroots itself when I turn it on and off, Would the ROM still be working fine? Or do you need to continue to stay rooted to use the ROM?
Would I still be able to use it just not use all of its available features?
And If I overclocked my phone while it was rooted would it still stay overclocked when it isn't rooted anymore after I reboot it?

Once you flash CM it will probably stay rooted but CM will work fine with no root. Theres even an option in its settings to turn root on/off
The overclocking thing im not sure of.. i think(?) the app you use to overclock will need root access but im not sure

What phone do you have? Some flashes require a patch or separate flash to maintain or reroot. This is especially true of KK ROMs.

Im on a galaxy s3.
Yeah at the start, kitkat roms needed you to flash a SuperSU Update zip to keep root but (for the roms for my phone anyway) thats not needed any more.
If you flash CM and find that youve lost root you can try that

I'm not reading what SU app you are using, is it SuperSU? Is it up to date?

If so, Have you tried triggering SuperSU's internal option of installing it to the system partition?

If you are rooted now and have a custom recovery then try flashing the latest SuperSU zip file from here - SuperSU Download

If you have a custom recovery installed make a nandroid before you use the CM installer.
