Root What would YOU do?

OK so long story short, i got my latest (4th) TB replacement in august/Sept 2011. i noticed right away the screen was coming out of its housing in the upper and right side of the screen. but everything worked so i used it as is. up until about 3 weeks ago, everything was great with it.
then, whenever i had the phone in my pocket and took it out, it would "press" random parts of the screen, it would automagically go to sms/dialer/ market ect without me doing anything.
not a huge deal, since i usually dont have the phone in my pocket, and turning screen off and on again usually fixed it.

fast forward to this week, i have a 1/4" space running from the bottom to the top of my screen that does not work. portraite typing is a no go b/c the letters i,j,m and period do not work........awesome.

so i want a replacement. i have some concerns though
i am rooted with custom ROM, and i have some damage from a drop on concrete (body only, screen is mint)
should i:
A) call verizon CS and get a new one that way (can they see my SW version? should i go stock and call them) will they nail me for having a few knicks on the phone and say the drop caused the damage?
B) flash a stock rooted ROM, and go into a verizon store (my local one is awesome and always help me out) with a fresh data wipe (its always the first thing they tell me to do) and see if i can get a new one through them
c) go S-on, and call
d) go S-on and go in.

also, i rooted with the old method (not revolutionary) can i just flash the latest RUU through Hboot and be good? or is there another way i have to do it.

VZW can not tell what software version you are on, as long as you restore the phone to it's factory condition before sending it back you will be fine. You can use the latest RUU to restore the phone as long as you don't have an unlocked bootloader, this is different then S-Off. You will know by going into the bootloader and it will say unlocked at the very top. If you are unlocked I believe Scotty did a write-up on how to get the bootloader back to stock. As far as the damage, I believe the only damage they truly care about is the screen. If the outside has scuffs but the screen is fine I don't think they will give you a hard time.

well i went in, phone is not covered under warranty (bought used)
called insurance and they say as long as there are some marks on the phone, i am going to have to pay the deductible as they do not cover drops, even if the drop didn't cause the damage.

so basically i have a 90% working screen, not going to pay the deductible i dont think. i have an upgrade in march, so this at least gives me a reason to get a new phone. going to see if verizon can up my upgrade a little. been with them for over 10 years with no late payments, i should be able to get a month out of them.......yeah right :P

Good luck with whatever you get. My upgrade is available as of today:D. But I'm going to hold off for now and wait it out just a couple of months since I'm pretty happy with my TB. I was going to get the nexus but some are having the same problem I have with my TB, which is losing data altogether sometimes. Plus if the Galaxy note comes to VZW I would really like to check it out.

you COULD be a trooper and send me your upgrade and you could take mine a couple months from now :) the note is pretty sweet, but i have a feeling that screen is just going to be too big for me. the nexus is about as large as i am willing to go on a phone.

yeah i thought about a screen replacement, but i just dont know. it doesn't really bother me that much, but if it starts getting worse, i will consider it.

hoping verizon throws me a bone with an early upgrade when i come in and my phone is in pieces after i throw it across a room. :)

i've always had better results dealing with them on the phone as opposed to in store. maybe thats cuz i live in NY
