I have text messaging blocked on one of my parents lines because its a simple phone and my mom doesn't use it. Lo and behold a 20 Cent text messaging charge shows up on her line in this months bill.
When I call Verizon Customer Service at *611 I ask them if the block on the line is still in place and they say yes. I then ask them how I got the 20 Cent charge and the rep says "Texting and messaging are two different things."

I got the charge removed and they supposedly now blocked "messaging" as well as "texting", but they didn't offer to remove the charge till I went off on a rant I could never repeat here. This whole thing sounds fishy to me.

I'm just trying to find out if they are blowing smoke up my you know what. If they are the same thing as I suspect I may go ahead and report it to the FTC.

As far as I kno, and after looking around on the VZW website, I found no distinction between the two. Generally, messaging encompasses both text and media messaging while text is just that, text.

Did you happen to see if your mother did actually receive anything? I know my mother, who's with T-Mobile, was for a while getting unsolicited text messages. It seemed twice a month she was calling and having the charges removed before she eventually just blocked it completely. At the time, I read that T-Mobile was lax in their security to some of their customers' phone numbers.

It was a unsolicited spam, that's why it has the block.
