Whats a Great GSM Android Phone

I'm looking for a really good GSM android phone I can unlock and put on AT&T. I had a G1 and it was good but the battery sucked. I'm lookin for a phone that I can get used or new for under $500. Anyone know of one?

Wait for the Samsung Galaxy S AT&T model. That will be the best Android phone on AT&T. Or, just purchase the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S.

Here is a picture comparing SuperAMOLED (on the Galaxy S) to AMOLED (on the Nexus One)

I got an Acer Liquid A1 for $360 and absolutely love it.

It works on the 1900MHz AT&T 3G band (which is the stronger 3G band) as well as the 900MHz/2100MHz 3G bands (so it can work throughout EurAsia as well).

It has a 768MHz Snapdragon (slightly underclocked/undervolted), 256MB ram, 3.5" 800x480 WVGA display. When it released in October 2009, it was the most powerful Android phone on the market. Only real downside is the body is plasticky but what do you expect for a $360 phone with specs like that.

The phone comes with 1.6 but Acer will be releasing official 2.1 very soon. My phone is rooted and has a stable 2.1 port (based on an Acer leak). If you are into rooting, the development community for this phone is huge (as it works pretty much around the world) and they are even working on a FroYo port.

Acer recently released the Liquid E in Canada which has 512 megs of ram and 2.1 installed. It works with both AT&T 3G bands but at the moment, it is impossible to get unlocked.

thanks I'm gonna look into the galaxy. If I don't get a iPhone and it's out in november then I'll upgrade and get that thx again

No problem, the Galaxy S is actually superior to the iPhone 4. Its processor is ridiculous.

Pretty much the same processor.

Apple's A4 is the Samsung Hummingbird slightly modified by Apple.

Also it has a 4" screen and Super AMOLED display. Is not made of glass, and you can hold it however you want I think.

Yea the processors are basicly the same and with iPhone attanea issues that can be resolved with a case or the rubber/silicon band that goes around the band and u don't even have to pay $30 for the apple one u can just use a LiveStong Wristband lol

AT&T's Galaxy S variant (the captivate) will be out this weekend (the 18th) and will retail for $349 (confirmed many times by AT&T reps on Facebook and Twitter).

+1. You aren't going to get anything better for $350/No contract than the Captivate.
