Which is better really is dependent on yourself and what you want from it.
If you went for a Nexus, Google's own tablet, you could be sure that you would have the most up to date version of Android and, if you decided to root your tablet, you would be sure of plenty of Developer support.
Not seen or had a play with the HDX, so can't comment on it - you might like to sign up for a free account and check out Device/Carrier Comparisons - Android Forums for opinions from a few others.
