what's the best backup for Android?

Hi all,
Can anyone advise what the most recent and fullest Android backup option is currently?
I've tried Pandasoftware, MyBackup Pro and have exported contacts/calendar etc all with varying success. One thing is all day entries often get restored as 00:00 to 00:00 or something on the phone etc. Personalised settings/profiles don't seem to get restored either.
On my last phone, a Nokia N95, I used to just use Nokia PC Suite to create one backup file and that could restore everything exactly as it was.

How come nothing like that seems to exist on Android?

I don't really want to use Google for my contacts and calendar as I don't like my personal information being held online. I prefer to keep it all on the phone as I personally feel it's more secure. I did consider using Google just for sync'ing to backup the phone but the annoying thing there is it mixes up my created contacts with everyone I've ever sent an e-mail to...

Can anyone advise if there is a decent app for this without having to root the phone?

Many thanks

That rules out the only way to get a truly complete backup. :( Any particular reason you don't want to root? Not to push you into anything, but the ability to make nandroids and use Titanium is one of the strongest arguments for doing it.

You might check out Companionlink for syncing calendar and contacts to Outlook. I hear it's fairly buggy though.

Hi wayrad,
I would love to root but don't want to invalidate the warranty as I have already had the phone off for repair after 2 months for a camera fault and am probably going to send it off again now as the browser keeps crashing all the time since upgrading to Froyo. I can imagine rooting it would give you more control and probably a more stable browser but just fear losing the 2 year warranty on the phone :(

Many thanks for the suggestions all. I will very much consider rooting the phone, I can only imagine it would be faster, less buggy and more usable that way. A colleague at work rooted his and has gingerbread now and is very pleased with that.

I may have just overlooked it, but what device do you have? With a lot of them its not to hard to unroot if problems arise. In the section of my phone (fascinate) we have all in one files to push that will completely remove everything you have done and unroot within about 5 mins. So just a thought for you.
