What's the deal with no Bluetooth keyboard HID support

I was over at the HTc forums and low and behold, no HID support for bluetooth keyboards. I was hoping to turn my Inc into a terminal console.

HTC for some reason uses an outdated and gimped BT stack that doesn't work properly with pretty much anything besides headsets. It's the same reason you can't use a Wiimote on the Inc.

The good news is that if you root and install an AOSP ROM (Cyanogenmod, MIUI, etc), you'll be able to use a wider range of Bluetooth devices.

BT keyboard support will have to be a requirement for my next phone. If I could use a keyboard I could use my Inc to replace my laptop on short business trips.

I am happy to report that I am successfully using the Palm (HID only) Bluetooth 3245WW keyboard with my Droid Incredible. I achieved this by rooting and loading on the Cyanogenmod 6.1 rom. Actually, any AOSP rom will work I'm told. That is, a rom not based off the HTC Sense UI.

My research concluded what Penguissimo had posted. I also learned, but not confirmed, that you don't have to root to get Bluetooth keyboard support. For this to work, you have to use a Bluetooth keyboard that supports the SPP Bluetooth profile. Freedom Pro Bluetooth Keyboard supports SPP (Btw it also supports HID.) You also need to have KeyPro installed on your Incredible. Right now there is only a trial of the program on the market. However you can purchase the license from the developers of the app at their mymobilegear website. *Don't assume it'll work. Test and test the trial first. They also list other keyboards KeyPro is compatible with.

Right now, on my rooted Incredible, I'm enjoying my HID Gigabyte mouse and HID Palm keyboard. With the help of the Android app, Xtralogic's Remote Desktop Client, I have full access to my Win7 computer at home via an SSL connection. I couldn't be happier.:D
