Root What's the downside?

So the ROMs for the Spec have come a long way. I've been reading the related threads and I'm not really sure what, if any, major problems are still lingering after I root and flash a new ROM.

Is bluetooth working?
Wifi tethering?
GPS? (I have to have this!)
Any other major quirks I should be ready for?

BTW, thanx devs!

bluetooth works on jelly bean based roms. Wifi tether works on CM9, AOKP40, CM10, AOKP41, CM10.1, and AOKP42. As far as bugs go it all depends on which rom you run. Each one has some slight issues here and there but nothing major. The most stable and current builds are CM10.1 and AOKP42 and is what most are running. I personally have been running AOKP42 with triggers kernel and it runs good. I've had a few issues that required me to pull the battery but nothing major.

Bluetooth works... But has issues. You've likely read about it. It'll cut out and never come back on sometimes.

I think it takes a reboot to fix it...

You could also probably pull out some Linux tricks like insmod, if that even works on android, to play with the driver for it to disable and reenable it... Might make it work again.... But that doesn't "fix" it.

The easiest way to get past that is to unplug the USB, pull the battery, then put the battery back in and turn it on without the USB plugged in.

I know how to get passed it. It is just a nuisance most of the time. But it once was a major problem for me. I use my phone for an alarm. Plugged phone in when I went to bed. Phone rebooted by itself in the middle if the night an got stuck at the charging screen. No more alarm for work:'(

I don't use bluetooth, so I have no issues with custom roms. Wifi tether works and so does everything else. There's no downside, Imo, to rom up your spec.

I don't use BT either, so it sounds good. I just can't seem to get past reading all these threads filled with users having (sometimes severe) problems after root and rom

Most of the time that's because they didn't follow instructions or the ROMs were in beta and had issues. Just make sure you read and understand everything (sounds like you're on the right track there) and you should be fine with either CM10.1 or AOKP42. I'm a flashing addict and rarely have serious problems, and have never had one that couldn't be fixed, so far anyway! ;)

Yeah.

Keep in mind.... All root is doing is changing some permissions and placing a su binary. Recovery is just flashing an image to the recovery partition. A ROM usually flashes to the boot and system partitions. Not a whole lot that you can't repair by cab flashing there
