Whats this box ?

Just noticed on my Galaxy S3 a tiny grey box in the top left hand corner, its grey and has a tiny black line in the middle of it ?

I am sure it was not there before.
Any advice much appreciatted.

It means you have notifications turned off. Pull down the notification bar and there is a toggle widget with an "i" symbol. Tap on it and your notifications will turn back on and the tiny grey box should disappear.
