Whats wrong with the video?

The camera takes amazing photos, but the video is downright awful. Even with anti shake on, it wiggles and shakes like crazy when you pan around with it. Never had a phone do this so badly. Its almost unwatchable. really hope this can be fixed with a software update.

My guess is there is something wrong with the phone. Judging by the video, it looks like an image stabilization system that's malfunctioning.

interesting... mine does the same thing! I had to turn off anti-shake to get a decent video. Your's the ATT version?

I ran a test yesterday and this shaking is present with Anti-Shake ON. With the feature turned OFF, the video is much smoother.

Go figure.

I would imagine it's a software based system, as I doubt Samsung squeezed a tiny gyroscopic stabilizer in the lens.

The shaking appears to be a rotating motion back and forth about a point in the center. In other words, the far corners of the video are affected the most, where the center is affected least.

Yeah just took a few test videos this afternoon and my video also shakes and studiers a bit. Lets hope its just a software thing. Perhaps a factory reset will help?

Maybe its an AT&T thing only ?

I just tested my international version with anti-shake on and off, the video is rock steady in both cases.

Don't know if it will help, but you might try calibrating the gyroscope.
Settings / Display / Gyroscope calibration (at the bottom)
Just place the SIII on a flat surface and press the calibrate button. DON'T move or shake while calibrating (3 seconds)
Let me know if this helps.

I tried this, it didn't help..Thanks though..

I have the Verizon version and just did a couple of videos, one with Antishake on and one with it off. Though the difference was not great, I could definitely tell there was less shake with the Antishake turned on. So while it's not as effective as OIS or IBIS on digital cameras (far from it), it's definitely working to some degree on my phone.

However, I am experiencing a bit of stuttering during movie playback that I did not notice until just now. For example, the two videos I shot: when I play them back, it will jump around a bit (not shake, but actual dropping of frames). Not sure if something is going on in the background or what, but I'll have to experiment a bit more.

I went to Verizon store today about my video issue. He said they will have some tomorrow and they would replace it. Should I wait for a software fix or just replace it? Everything else works great , but that. I don't want to get another one and have different problems or am I just paranoid?

I believe this issue has been found now on all versions. It was noted on one reviewer site to disable the Anti-Shake since for some reason it makes this happen. Go figure?

So I think that is the only option for now.

When I turn off the anti-shake it seems to be a little better, but it's not right.

I took a video of a ceiling fan and you could see the fan stuttering for a half second during playback. As if something was runnning in the background while the video was recording. Same thing when videoing a water fountain, you can see a slight hesitation as the water flows. Anybody else have this problem.

I also think the auto focus adjusting causes the video to studer a bit. I don't know.

Camera seems to be pretty great here. I have image stabilize on and the video was pretty smooth considering my shaky hands.
