What's Your Favorite Thing About The Nexus S 4G?

good thread- i'm seriously thinking about getting the nexus = between this evo - epic was up there but i'm pretty sure i don't need the keyboard-

keep the favs going!

I love the Evo, for the most part. But I added an extended battery, which really bulks it up and I'd probably feel more comfortable with the smaller screen as I've had the Evo since release. It's cool, but I think I'll be happier with the S.

just stopped at my sprint store -was going to do the preorder and he said they're not a corporate store and couldn't do it -but added he didn't think it'd be necessary. he said the duo is coming out 4/17 and felt the nexus wouldn't be released to late april - may!

What do you mean by "the duo"?

my bad! yes the echo

Ooohhh. Okay. lol
Well, I don't really think that the Echo would affect the Nexus S sells. Not many people know about it, and only a few people out of them actually likes it. So I think that it may be possible that both of them can be released on the same day. :p

The echo? Lol.

That phone's gonna flop like a dieing fish. I can't see the phone running very well. I'm not positive, but I'm NEARLY certain that 2.2 was not coded for 2 screens to be running at once. It's either going to be REALLY laggy or just not be implemented well at all.

Cool idea, but I just don't see that working at all.

This will be my side device along with the SGSII(when it comes state side)for future update purposes and purness. One thing I'm curious about is if I should wait to get whatever the next Nexus phone will be. Only reason I say or ask is because since the first Nexus, it's been a yearly update. First one was released in Jan '10 and with a follow up in the same year late Dec '10. Which was almost a year. Just a few days to a week short into the new year. Now should I wait for a possible holiday successor or maybe it'll be next year Jan '11. I know eventually Google will have to pump out a dual core one. Almost makes me wish Sammy made a Super Amoled Plus one with the SGSII form factor. Or even the same form factor as the Nexus S just bigger screen and Plus Amoled. Even if I do wait, will Google make it out to all carriers or wait late in the game to do so like now. I'm also sure this will get updated to whatever the successor has when that comes but why not have the latest since this is late in the game. Also makes me think since Google is late with this, they might even wait longer to have a successor. So many things happen in the Android community and it's a little confusing sometimes. Having a yearly successor on all carriers 4G ready would help frag. It's coming to Sprint and rumored to come to AT&T now. I don't see it as being over shined to have the next generation of Nexus come out by ends year as the 4G nexus is the same phone that came out in Dec just 4G capable. Any assumptions or food for thought on this?

Two things I'm already not liking about the Nexus S. It's still got that famous crippled GPS from Samsung, along with metric shit tons of plastic construction.

I'm really tempted to get this one when it launches (me and a friend here on base opening a Sprint account so we can split the bill and make things cheaper), but I might actually just say nay. If Samsung has ****ed this one up, there's no limit to how badly they can make the mobile world look. All they had to do was provide capable hardware. The design I can understand, but GPS still bunked? On a stock ROM, random restarts still prevalent? Yeesh. Makes everyone look bad.

Yup. Takes forever to lock on, then it's never as accurate as it should be. Also, while driving it's next to 100% useless. I've heard the GPS in the Nexus S isn't NEARLY as bad as it is in ALL of the Galaxy S phones, but it's still about as accurate as guessing what neighborhood you're currently in.

Without any cell signal, no data connection, no WiFi, my Evo can hit my position in a room down to about 25 feet. With signal (no wifi) it'll get to 6ft accuracy. Accuracy while driving is around 15 feet, so I'm totally happy with it. The total ass-drop on the Samsung phones is just aggravating. All this awesomely capable hardware, coupled with crippled components and a company that cares nothing about their products beyond releasing one after another in a shotgun attempt.

With the plastic body on it, I will be getting the Seidio body cover. I had one with my old HERO phone. Protects during falls and also has a holster for work without adding much bulk!

my epic 4g gets 10m lock on even when driving, granted at launch the lowest it would get was 30m.. but i dont see an issue with that.. how fast do you have to be going to need more then 30m to know when to turn!?

Usually around 45 or 50. >.>

If it's at 50 or 100m accuracy, like my father's Epic, you miss every turn you need unless you're looking back to the phone every 20 seconds to see what the next street is you need to turn at. At that point though, I think getting written directions or map quest is the better option. That or getting a GPS unit, or.... well... any other android phone that's not from Samsung.

again my epic doesnt suffer from that issue, not saying it doesnt happen, but di18 did fix a lot of gps issues and now with ec05 the official froyo update the new modem does improve a bit more. but hands down i think its better to just own a gps device anyways, while it may not be cheaper the 50-100 bucks youll spend on it you will get a device thats sole job is location and maps.. you instead are using a device thats a phone/camera/camcorder/gps/email client/web browsing device and so much more.. you end up making things work less by stuffing more crap in there. just like i dont expect my high end phone to take as good of pictures as a high end camera if you get what im saying.

I get what you're saying, though it seems like a standard fall back response.

'Well.... it doesn't work... so I'll just ignore it.'

If the GPS on my Evo works as well as/better than my Garmin, why shouldn't other ones? I no longer have a NEED to carry a GPS in the car and my phone with me when I need to get somewhere that I haven't been before. That's the point in having all the different radios and non sense in these. The camera, sure. That's different. It'll never be the equivalent of an SLR camera dedicated to taking super quality photos. The GPS thing, however, should be almost completely opposite. There's the same stuff put into the phone that's in the GPS unit, and the phone is connected to the internet, giving you more up to date maps with accurate real-time traffic guidance and what not. How is that supposed to be inferrior to just hard-wired map and GPS? You GET the hard wired (not really, but you get what I mean) maps and GPS, plus everything else to make it better.

Then there's people like Samsung that love ****ing up things. Like GPS. Get what I'm sayinhg?

no i totally agree that samsung dropped the ball on the SGS lineup, my point was you made it sound like the gps is throwing darts at the states and guessing where you are. ive had issues with htc as well, (my heroc for a while thought i was in west congo africa). the issue i see with the gps on the nexus is samsung doesnt know how to make a cdma radio properly. the way they handled gps on the sgs lineup was a joke, the reason why i mention that gps on a phone IMO will never be as good as a standalone unit is in my eyes if a company does one thing then they should be focused and do it damn good.

i dont expect tom tom to come out with a video game console and do a great job just the same as i dont expect a company that screws up a lot of things like sony to have great pr...

If I have to root it to take advantage of WT then its a fail. My virgin mobile phone can do WT out of the box.

The only other thing I dont like is the plastic. I hope there is an after market high quality battery cover (I dont do cases).

Do you own a Samsung phone? Because I do, and I also post in the Epic forum, and the GPS issue was blown out of proportion, IMO. Mine has never had the first issue. Lots of others report the same.

For me, the biggest drawback with Samsung is its lack of updates. They just want you to buy their phone. They don't care about you after that. Hell, we just got Froyo last month.

WT - wireless tether? If so, then yes, you have to root it IF YOU WANT IT FOR FREE.
