I'm interested to know more about people, and generally I'm fairly inquisitive. So here's a couple of questions:

1. What's your job?
2. How long have you been doing it?
3. What's your ideal job? (realistically)
4. What's your dream job?

I'll start

1. Software developer
2. 20 years
3. Professional musician
4. F1 driver

Edit: Changed my ideal job to musician, because playing music is what I'm happiest doing.

Haha! Nice ones. Just to clarify - the dream job is something you would absolutely love to be doing, but would never achieve the required level of skill, and/or have the opportunity to do.

1. Marketing/Advertising manager
2. Three days longer than forever. :(
3. IT/Systems Consultant
4. Science Officer of the Enterprise.

*2. 34 years -- which includes 10 years as a creative director for an ad agency ie. "Don Draper", 5 years owning my own firm and a 3-year hiatus doing independent project work. Been at my current job about 10 years now.

:D

1) Similar to AIA but not quite there yet! :D:D:D
2) A few years now and they love me to bits lol literary! xD
3) My ideal job.... hmmm .... I don't really know... I have always wanted to be something extreme or out of this world... does lottery winner count? :D XD
4) And my dream job... I know this may sound crazy and somewhat childish but.... but.... "MAD SCIENTIST!" - I have always felt a little bit crazier than everybody else... you could maybe even sum my entire life into one single phrase... "Bleeding-edge!" some people think I am crazy...but I KNOW I am crazy! XD

EDITED for my own safety! phew! this world is tooo crazy! xD

(Most subject to change from minute to minute)

1) Present job: Currently unemployed

2)How long? 2+ years unemployed, after 30+ of actually having my dream job...(What a nightmare that was, be careful what you wish for);)

3)Ideal job: Something I could do from this room, at odd hours, from behind this keyboard; Creative consultant? TV/Movie script advisor? Positive, constructive criticism of darn near anything? Etc.

4)Dream job: An F-1........Mechanic.........In the 1950's.
Someone else can do the driving, I know where my strengths are; And if 1954 is all booked up, there is a race mechanic position in 1911 I have my eye on.
***OP says #4 is fantasy, unachievable dream, so must revise: Semi-competent guitar player. Far less likely to happen than my initial answer.

Even if we are not there yet;

Hopefully everyone finds that thing that makes all 4 answers the same; It's your dream job, your ideal job, and your current job. And you wanna' do it forever.
And it makes your heart swell in your chest every day; You can hardly wait to get to work each morning.

There is something for everyone^^^^^^^and below, it's that thing where you go:
"I made that!"
"I ran that engine lathe, like it was an extension of my biology."
"I produced that ad campaign you can't forget, for that insurance company you wish you could."
(I once met the woman who did the "1984 /Orwell" advert for the original Apple Macintosh. That probably doesn't get anyone's heart racing 'round these parts, but I had to give her thumbs up).;)
"I was on the team that discovered.....It's a twisted ladder of letters."
"I laid down the bass track on that number."
"I was on the crew that won that Oscar."
"I baked that truckload of bread."
"I helped organize the relief effort after hurricane XXXXX, and next week we're gonna' tackle the problem of........"
"I wrote the book (you don't recognise, because they turned it into that show that only ran for half a season)....But I wrote it just the same!"
"I came just that close to winning the silver medal in Fencing in 1984."
"I wore this badge, and kept the bad guys in check for 25 years."
"And now I'm gonna' slam this ball through this hoop; While you stand there, nailed to the floor with that stunned look on your face." And when we get to the other end of the court, it's your turn to try and hit me with your best shot; Bring it on!!!!!!

They tell me some people even like to write code, with just such enthusiasmo_O:p
It ain't my thing, but on those occasions when I write a (stone axe simple) formula for a spreadsheet......I can absolutely see myself in your shoes; I catch a glimpse of what makes you tick, and think...."Good on you!"

And the list of possibilities is truly endless. Everyone (I hope) has something they are that enthusiastic about, or finds it some day.

2. 2 Years since 2014 december.
3. I am not think i have it.

Incidentally, my first answer to "what's your ideal job" was, I'm already doing it. But after thinking about it, I changed to musician, because I love that. However would I love it as much if it was a full time job?

And yes, there are days when I can't wait to get into work, and I feel privileged to be in that position. I luckily fell into a profession which suits both my interests and personality. I'm a big believer in doing a job which fits in with your personality traits.

But as I raised in the rant thread, I think too often in this country, we get the work/life balance wrong. Couples needing two incomes to survive, working to pay child care fees (another issue I have). We are too obsessed with amassing huge personal wealth, with associated material trappings.

Let's work hard and enjoy it yes, but let's also value other aspects of our lives.

I'm not saying it's been perfect - and financial times have sometimes been brutal (and very inconsistent) - but I know I am lucky to be able to do something I still value after 25 years!
