I believe whatsup uses push so it shouldn't take much more battery then SMS / Activesync .. I use it and I am at 44% and 19h54 (stock, not rooted).

You can always just install it and remove it if it affects you. It probably will though in a different way. Because if you use it (texting / answering) then obviously your screen is on - which effectively uses more battery .. Just depends how often you actively use whatsapp.

I would imagine it's not whatsapp itself, but the fact that whoever uses it, must keep the screen turned ON, and extensive use of the screen illumination is a major power drain.

I use whatsapp the whole day, between kids, wife, friends and business associates. Sending photos, text and videos. And so far, it accounts for a very small % of my battery. But I simply read and reply... Don't go on and chat back and forth, and often, I let the messages accumulate and reply at once so I don't on and off the phone so often.

You should definitely try it :)

thanks all , i am going to leave it on there from today and monitor it .
such a good app but one i have heard bad things about regarding battery .
