WhatsApp for Android is now available in the Android Market!

Sounds good, I'll give it a whirl.

Question, it says "free for the first year," how much does it cost after said year?

I'm pretty sure its only for android 2.2.

I keep getting errors saying that its not compatible with my 3rd party task manager. I'm not sure what that means, but it won't work for me. It will install fine, just won't work. I've tried on stock android launcher, touchwiz3.0 and Launcher Pro.

It's on my Fascinate (2.1) and while I've not chatted yet it hasn't given me any issues.

Do you have a task killer running? That might be your problem, not your launcher.

WhatsApp Messenger is a smartphone messaging app which allows you to exchange messages with your friends and contacts without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is cross platform and available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Nokia (beta) and yes, those phones can all message each other! To send and receive messages, WhatsApp utilizes your existing smartphone internet data plan: 3G/EDGE (or Wi-Fi when available)

In addition to messaging, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry WhatsApp Messenger users can send each other unlimited images, video and audio media messages.

In other words. It's like BBM (Blackberry Messenger). Except it's multi-platform. BB folks cannot use BBM to talk to you, they must also have it.

On BB it's free (or so i think).
On Android it's free for the first year.
On iPhone it's 99cents a year.
On Symbian it's free as it's still Beta.

i see no reason to switch over to this from Gtalk.

-whatsapp cannot be turned off
-has an indicator whether the message you sent has been read or not, which in my opinion is a negative.
- one more list of contacts, in a phone that moves to consolidate contact lists.
-gtalk is free

Guys please help me i have a problem,i installed whatsapp on my xperia x10 but when enter the application and accept the terms to start using it,i get an alert saying :A cellular data network is required to activate whatsapp messenger
Note:My phone's connected to unlimited Wifi not 3G but according to the website it can work on both

I get it. For sending video and pics, and chatting its abundant cantankerous platform, and free. You can allotment your area in google maps, accepting admonition to and from. It's chat, email and sms formed into one acceptable app. My friends would often just send vids of where we were at etc and what we were doing. Pictures tell a 1000 words. Yes they accept to install it, and back you do it compares your contacts account with their registered database and adds any matches to your whatsapp acquaintance list. works a charm.
