Help Whatsapp notification design sony z3 compact

Hi, since the software update on my sony xperia 3 compact last week, the notifications from whatsapp have become very annoying and I just can't figure out how to change them. My friend luckily has the exact same phone, he bought it on the exact same day and did the update last week aswell. His design didn't change at all and just looks better than mine. I've checked all settings... please help.

And this is how it looks on my friends phone, this is the way it looked before the update aswell and I would like to change it to this design. I don't like the new one at all:

Since we have the same firmware and phone, this is really strange.

Yours is using the Android 5 style of notification (I'm not entirely sure why Google think these are a good thing, but at least they've not been problematic for me so far). I'm more surprised that his is not, but if his really has the same Android software version and is showing the updates differently you must have different settings somewhere, either in the app settings or in the phone's app notification settings - have you checked those as well?

I don't have Whatsapp myself so can't check what options there are.

I just checked the whatsapp settings again and tried all options available there and managed to "fix" it. The setting make absolutely no sense though (sorry, it's in german):

Before I had the "pop-up" option on: "No pop-up", so no notification at all!

Now I changed it to: "only when screen is off"

It looks just like on my friends screen now. I don't understand the solution but I'm happy it's back to the old design now. Atleast if somebody has the same problem he can view the solution in this thread now. Thanks for the input though Hadron.

This is only sure to escalate as v5.0.x is rolled out to other Xpreria handsets such as the Z2, Z1 and (fingers crossed) my Z. Thanks for posting the solution.
