WhatsApp Shortcut Camera

WhatsApp have introduced a widget on the latest version which allows you to take a video or picture without opening WhatsApp first, and when you take a picture with it then click on the tick it will then open WhatsApp and from there you can select who you wish to send the picture to.

My post here is about once you take the picture and after you have sent it.

When I then go into my stock photo gallery I expect to see the photo that I have just taken, however on numerous occasions it isn't there, even when I go to Google+ then click on photo it doesn't show there either.

However I have a feeling but haven't managed to duplicate this as yet but I have found that on one occasion anyway when I go to the phones gallery from my apps I eventually see it there under WhatsApp Images.

I am wondering therefore why the delay for it to show in the gallery.

I would like to point out that when viewing in my files explorer the image taken with the whatsapp camera shortcut shows, it also shows in the sent folder with a different file name, and finally I have noticed that they are given the extension .jpeg by the whatsapp shortcut camera whereas .jpg when taking an image without the camera shortcut, I don't think that makes much difference to this issue though.

What Gallery shows is what Media Scan found, and even if you have only a few pictures, Media Scan takes a while to run through all of storge to find media files.

That will show as soon as a file is saved, there's no scanning involved.

That's probably a Whatsap thing.

jpg and jpeg refer to the same file format. JPEG is the Joint Photographic Experts Group, jpg is the extension usually used for a file using the type of compression they came up with. Most apps recognize either jpg or jpeg.

How often does media scan run though if the phone is always on?

When taken a pic from the app itself it shows in the gallery immediately.
