Have you tried turning off animations, under system settings/ developer options, does that help any?

Animation Scale is set to 1x by default
Any thing higher causes the animations to run slow (slower performance making animations more visible)
Setting the scale lower or turning them off, makes animations faster (speeding up performance making animations more snappy) also saves battery life when turned off

Actually I put everything to .5x and it has made all the difference.

Other tips

You can also disable or turn off notifications to apps, that you are not using under, system settings/app manager/all apps

Turn off connection manager (Automatic WiFi Connection)under system settings/more settings/mobile network/connection manager
