When 2.1 hits Sprint's website for download, will HTC Sync be required?

Because for some lame god damn reason, my Dell Studio 64-bit Windows 7 computer just doesn't want to download it for some reason.

If I will need it, whats the trick to download that stupid fackin' program? Thanks!

Won't download it, or run it?

Well near the end of the installation process I always get this long-ass error message.

It is probably downloading it, but the drivers are jacked up. There is a new version on sprint's website, from what I've been told, and supposedly the drivers are fixed. If you can't get that one,(I don't have the link, sorry) then install the one you have AND PDAnet. PDAnet has the correct drivers, and can force sync to work. There is also a workaround that has hit or miss success.

Workaround for HTC Hero Sync Problem in Windows 7 My Digital Life

Try that if nothing else works

I had the same issue as I put Win 7 64x on my PC the same day it was released from Microsoft and HTC had no support for it. The HTC Sync program would download and install, but it just would not recognize the Hero.

I finally downloaded the zipped drivers from a third party site, unzipped them, and then manually copied them to my HTC Driver folder. It has been working like a charm ever since. The RUU update copied flawlesssly too.

I have thought about updating the Sync program with the new release, but if it ain't broke...........

I'm downloading Sync and have 30 mins left. It has disconnected from the server twice.

When it is finished downloading do I have to launch it and run the wizard or can I skip that step and immediately start downloading 2.1?

instructions aren't clear if you have to actually do anything with Sync after downloading it.

Their server is getting beat up today, lol. I think you have to set it up to get it to sync with your phone, it has been a while since I did it, so sorry if I'm wrong....

man..gotta be an easier way to get sync software

like I said, I think there is a new version, I just don't want to search for it. Mine works, so I'm being lazy. It took me about a week to get mine to work, initially. I'm no computer savvy kind of guy, though... lol

it took me an hour but I did get Sync on my PC

I launched it and ran the wizard. Then downloaded 2.1 from the mirror site. Connected via USB and had it up and running in about 7 minutes. Looks good. :)
