Help WHEN??? Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update

HI EVERYBODY,
my brother has a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and he still has Android 3.2 Honeycomb and he is wondering when Samsung will make the official Update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich available...

I have a ASUS Transformer and i got my update about a month ago... why is Samsung soo far behind???

Is there an official date for the availability of this Update in the US yet?

I heard it's supposed to come in May, but I'm not sure.
 
Asus making 3-4 devices running Android can get them updated in a month. Samsung making tens of them will take a bit longer.

Now that I have v4.0.4 on my Nexus S phone, I'm a bit more eager for the update on my Tab. I have a "new" phone now.

To all the people already running ICS ROMS on their Tab, is there any substantial speed or performance tweaks?
 
if they dont get it out this month or announce when and that being before June, im going the root and rom route as well.

Answer: It's a Samsung.

Samsung has a long and consistent history of neglect for their devices. If a new OS update is released, or a patch is required, Samsung will likely take about 3-5 times longer than any/every other manufacturer to make and implement that update or patch (ASSUMING they don't just deny that a problem exists). I bought this device with the expectation that it would never be updated. And thus far I have not been happy, but I have also not been disappointed.

Seriously, never buy a Samsung if you really want responsiveness to software changes, updates, or fixes. They will drop the ball... But at least they are consistent.

Here in Canada it has been confirmed that Bell (and likely the other major carriers) will be releasing the update in May.

I wouldn't say that. The problem is the TouchWiz overlay. The ASUS is virutally a vanilla version of the tablet software from Google, so it needs very little to release an update. The Samsung Tab has an integrated overlay that requires testing of ICS, development of the overlay, testing of the new overlay, bug fixes, and then released to the public. So yeah it takes a lot longer. HTC is similar with their Sense overlay and updates.

I had the original ASUS Transformer, but got rid of it and went with the Tab as it has a nicer screen, much thinner and lighter, more cases available (at the time), and integrated 3G wireless. Even though it has the TouchWiz overlay which I'm not really crazy about, it performs well and works the way I want. I have stock v4.0.4 ICS on my "old" Nexus S and it's a very nice improvement - it's like a whole new phone. I look forward to the ICS release for my Tab as I'm sure it will improve performance quite a bit too.

Yep. Samsung is ******ed. The way the handle ICS will determine if ill ever buy from them again.
 
You guys should be happy for not having ICS. Most Asus transformers have maaaajor ussues with it. Been going on since launch day, about two months now. And every new "fix" only makes things worse. Go check the forums.
