Help when browsing internet, left and right side of screen causes browser to zoom into middle of screen?

Hey everyone, new Android user here. Just got a Samsung Galaxy Note II.

So while browsing internet, when I push the left side wall and right wall of the browser window, it zooms in randomly. It seems to zoom in on the center of the page. When sliding my finger up and down, it zooms in and out.

This is very problematic for one hand use, because when I'm trying to scroll down a page, it zooms in. I have to keep my fingers in the center area of the phone.

It even happens when the orientation is switched.

Anyway to turn this off or fix it?

I've got the same problem on my SGS III. (SPRINT/ANDROID 4.1.1/STOCK-UNROOTED). Very annoying. I would imagine it's a software issue, since two different devices are experiencing the same issue.

I've subscribed to this thread & will update w/any developments on this issue that may come about w/updates, etc......

I just downloaded firefox. It seems to format all web pages differently, also it seems to not have the same issue so far... tried any other browsers?

CHROME & DOLPHIN seem to be immune to this bug.

So far, it's present in stock browser,G-Mail, e-mail, PHANDROID application, eBay application.

xScope Pro also suffers from this. In all honesty I actually like the bug. Makes 1-hand operation easier when I want to zoom and cant pinch-to-zoom.

I had the same issue and I am a new android user and new to galaxy note 2. I assumed this was normal and intentional after i figured out it was the edge of the screen acting as a zoom however after the T-Mobile update that brought multiview this is no longer happening? I don't miss it, took some getting used to

This is NOT a bug - it's a feature to make one-handed operation easier.

If you slide your finger up and down on either side of the screen, it zooms in and out. It works with all of the stock apps.

To scroll, just touch farther towards the center of the screen.

I repeat...it is NOT a bug.

LOL!!!

If this were a feature, wouldn't everyone have it?
Also, most "features" have the option to check or uncheck a box for use. Without this option, I consider it a bug, as a good number of others here do.

I also saw a reviewer saying it was a feature. It would be nice though if it can be turned off if it's a feature.

Hmmm, if this is a feature of the stock browser, I don't have it. :p I just tried and no matter where I scroll, I never zoomed in.

Calling it a bug does not make it so. Sure it would nice to have the option to turn it off, but you don't. The only remedy to your "problem" is perhaps using another browser.

I actually like this "bug".

If this weren't a bug, it would be available on everyone's phone. Whether one calls it a bug or a feature is moot, the option to disable it should be available, as a sizable number of users find it to be a total PITA.

Such a this is a touchscreen phone, more thought should have went into this. I can overlook it for now, but, if this persists in future updates w/o an option to disable or adjust the sensitivity, I'll be looking at something other than SAMSUNG come upgrade time.

I'm glad you're happy w/it, but, as others have stated, it's not an exclusive to the stock browser. Other apps, stock & downloaded, are affected by this as well.

Hi

I cannot get this to happen on my Int GT-N7100 with any app. I have not seen it mentioned in any Samsung manuals or guides. Could it be only with US carriers (or just one?)

Roger

i dont own a note 2 (yet, soon if I dont change my mind) and so my opinion probably doesn't really carry much weight.

I was in the sprint store and made sure to play around with the scroll feature on the sides. I opened the stock browser, went to a site and made sure to go to "full site" and it would zoom in/out as I scroll up/down on the sides. Very smoothly as well. didn't do that on mobile version of that particular site.

I still have a few days left to return the phone (not just because of this issue), so we'll see. For now I'm using Mozilla Firefox Mobile, which is decent. Huge oversight on Samsung's (Android's?) part to not make this an option. As a new android user, I'm a bit let down as this OS is known to offer unrivaled customization.

What other issues are you experiencing that are having you considering returning your phone?

Maybe others here have solutions to help out.

I wonder if it's your carrier who modified the OS to do that because many others have reported no such zooming issues. Mine certainly doesn't do it.

I've heard of it on SPRINT,as mine is/does have this SNAFU.
I don't believe any of the international versions are affected.
The one thing that I can add, even though my phone is an SGS III is that it DID NOT have this ZOOMING "feature" while running stock/unroooted ICS.Now it's here,w/the upgrade to ANDROID 4.1.1........

YAY..........:-\

Well, a few things here and there. I actually have the Galaxy Note II.

-Most of my friends and family have iphones, and my group messaging with them has become a lot harder. The stock messenger doesn't allow it at all so I got Handcent. Though when I get pop up group messages, the message just displays a "play" button, rather than the message. Slight inconvenience. More bothersome is when I write a text, press send, and it disappears, or is placed out of order in the group chat. Also, sometimes pictures have to be sent multiple times for me to receive them.

It's a bit of an annoyance, but I can live with it, disappointing as it is.

-The youtube app doesn't let me log in. My log in on youtube isn't an email address but it seems to only accept an email address. Whenever I type in my normal log in and password, it adds "@gmail.com" to my log in.

-I made a separate thread about this, but all my pictures/videos uploaded sideways/upside down, so I need to figure that out.

-Also, as I understand, to get the full benefit of the Android experience, I need to use the Chrome browser on my PC to fully sync things, use cloud features, etc. For some reason on my PC, my Chrome browser stopped playing sound on videos. After some Googling, I changed some settings, which fixed the sound on some videos, but stopped playing other videos altogether. So I've changed to Firefox on my PC, and can't get the full benefit (from what I understand, I'm still learning).

I love the stylus, I love S Note, I love all the customization functions, but I'm having so much trouble getting my basic needs met as opposed to iOS. I still have a little time, so I'm tinkering with it, hunting for answers lol.
