When do you think the new nexus phone will be released?

After the debacle that was the galaxy nexus, i wouldn't count on Verizon getting another nexus device. If they do, it will be months after another carrier has had it exclusively at launch (like Sprint with their gnex.)
 
Two things you can count on for sure: Samsung will NOT make another Nexus phone and Verizon will NOT carry another Nexus phone. They both hate it.

As a consumer myself, I don't really care about pure Android or not pure Android. I never root my phone and I never put on any custom ROM, just like tens of millions of consumers out there. The argument about fast upgrade is really moot point when the majority of the consumers will change phone in less than 2 years.

Nexus phone caters to just a small number of techies, and it is not profitable to the manufacturer and the carrier. They are for-profit organizations and they are not going to do anything that is not profitable. :)

Samsung has made the last two nexus phones, so i would hardly say that they hate it, and i can certainly see them making another in the future. I think i remember reading that the nexus sold quite well on Verizon, but i don't think they saw eye to eye with Google on how a nexus device should be handled, so that's why i don't think they'll get another one. I would also argue that the average consumer gets another phone when they are eligible for an upgrade, and are not buying phones full retail every year.

I think the phone sold just fine, but i think the way Verizon handled the phone left a bad taste in Google's mouth. First, there was the launch that was constantly delayed, and when it was finally released it was buried under the RAZR sales campaign. Then Verizon blocked google wallet, since they are cooking up their own mobile payment system. Then there was the 5 month wait for the 4.0.4 update, which one of the Android devs basically came out and said they were peeved that it was taking Verizon so long to release it to a nexus phone. Personally, i would be shocked if Verizon got another shot at a nexus phone

The argument about fast upgrade (you mean OTA updates, right?) is not something to overlook. No operating system is flawless and always needs tweaks and changes to bring it closer to perfection. Believe it or not, there are problems that beta testers cannot test before releasing a phone. Therefore, trial and error is carried out through the consumer. When major problems exist, Google begins writing a patch to try and resolve that problem. If you have a Nexus phone, you'll receive that OTA update almost as soon as Google releases it (unless you're on Verizon, which is a whole other debate). If you don't have a Nexus phone, you'll have to wait for your manufacturer to incorporate the next update to their skin, which could be weeks to even months of waiting. See why fast updates are a good thing to have?

The Nexus phone caters to more than just the techies. As stated before, for quick OTA updates, that attracts a large crowd. Of course, for the techies, having an unlockable bootloader and a huge developer community is a bonus as well.
 
The new Nexus will be release late fall IMO. Coincides with the other Nexus releases. However considering Google's statement to have one AOSP from now on, and their new interest in selling via the play store, you can almost guarantee Verizon won't get a Nexus until it has fully transitioned to VoLTE. So probably the next two generations won't see the light of day on Verizon.
 
The next Nexus phone will release March 2013 and it will be made by Samsung! This is 100% factual based on nothing at all.

All joking aside, I didn't buy the nexus prime since the Nexus S was still okay and the S3 was a lot better, tech wise, than the prime. That being said, I can't stand the carrier crapware that goes on android phones, nor do I like how the S3 doesn't even have 4.1 yet and my old Nexus S had it months ago. Also, Samsung makes great hardware but their software is nothing special. I don't want someone other than Samsung making hardware because they are the best and I don't want someone other than Google making the software (for android) because they are the best. I don't want 2nd class products if I can go with first class, right?

If Google doesn't release a new Nexus phone or at least announce one by the end of this year, I'll probably switch to Apple. I ****ing hate bloatware more than I hate not being able to fiddle with my device. At least by Christmas time we will have a better idea of how Apple is handling their maps glitches.

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of militaries are using Nexus 7 devices in combat situations. Because a bit of scratch protection makes them invincible!!!
 
Google should insist that the carriers allow Nexus devices to be true Nexus devices. The carriers don't interfere with the iPhone software. Google should just say to the carriers -- if you want the Nexus, you cannot alter it and you have to let the updates come directly from Google. Instead of taking months "testing" the updates before releasing them, just have Nexus users agree that the carrier will not be held responsible if the software released by Google does not perform as expected.

I just got Jellybean on my GNex yesterday morning.
