When my 4g drops, my 3g will not connect..

..until i disable data and re-enable it.

What i really do not understand is why i am losing 4g signal in the first place : (

I live in zip code 55021 and if you check virgin's 4g coverage area i am well within the purple indicated zone:
Check Nationwide Prepaid Voice, Data & 4G LTE Coverage | Virgin Mobile

I would at least be ok with dropping out of 4g sometimes if my 3g would pick up the slack, but my problem is when 4g drops 3g simply will not connect at all until i disable and re-enable my data connection.

Just got this phone couple days ago and i love the fact of how fast it is and how crisp videos are compared to phone i was coming from, but im actually having a worse experience in regards to mobile data than my old phone which was only 3g. I talked to virgin multiple times and they have done resets on my phone and re-synced it to their towers and they have no idea why i am having to turn my data on and off to get 3g working when 4g drops.

Any tips truly appreciated, i am liking this phone but not loving it.

Just went to store for coffee and it happened again, every time ive went for a drive i lose 4g connection. Like i said i really couldnt care less if my 3g actually worked when my 4g drops but 4g will drop and my video will stop (twitchtv livestream). Not until i disable data and re-enable it will it work, so frustrating! My 3g speeds arent bad (just tested with speedtest and i get a 2mb's connection) so twitch plays fine on medium, but not high.

50% of the reason i upgraded phones was for 4g but it seems my area has a really spotty 4g connection, even tho i am encircled by at least 15-20 mile radius of purple 4g map coverage. Other 50% was i needed to upgrade phones to work with chromecast as my 2.2.2 android optimus v was not compatible with it, as well of course as having just a better with higher quality video/faster etc. Am i pretty much stuck with disabling 4g or should i take a chance on a different phone like the HTC desire 601? I would be fairly upset if i spent another 130 bucks on a phone (79.99 vs 209.99) to have the same 4g problems.

Again any tips appreciated. BTW these problems occur with connections optimizer disabled or enabled, ive tried both cause i wasnt sure if that was the problem, seems it has no effect.

Is this only happening when you are streaming videos? If so Virgin mobile automatically reduces your speed to 3g if watching or streaming large video files. That may be why your not getting 4g all the time. As for the 3g switching part this may be due to the fact of the way they do this 3g changing when streaming videos it may not work very well doing this process properly something they need to work on if they continue to do this.

I read about the 3g for videos somewhere but not sure where. It was on vm.com i think will have to look again.

I play ingress and have found in some places my 4g icon is showing, but I have no data connection, it just sits there doing nothing. I tried toggling as you did, but still would not transfer any data. I was about to give up trying to play in this particular area after 2 very crappy attempts, but did the following which totally cured the issue:

The Virgin mobile coverage map shows spotty 4g coverage in that area, so under setting/more/mobile networks/networks mode/ I change it to CDMA which is 3g only. I was able to get data transfer this way.

Not sure it will cure your problem, but maybe worth a shot to see if it makes any difference.

So i have returned the phone and purchased a HTC desire 601. I am still having the 4g/3g issues so that confirms at least its a problem with the network (hopefully they are just working on it atm). I am much happier with this phone than the f3 it has better call quality, much better feel (not slippery) and there are spots to hold the phone when turning to go to landscape, on the f3 you had to be very dainty or risk pressing the back button. Speakers are also far superior. Dont get me wrong f3 is still a decent phone for 80 bucks but i just wasnt happy with it.

So if anything, i guess this post could be helpful to someone trying to decide between an f3 and a desire lol. And yes i imagine disabling 4g in settings and doing cdma only may cure my problems but that really isnt a fix, i bought a 4g phone, but i understand you are just trying to help : )
