When will a 4G Droid be available?

Lurker
I want to upgrade to a Droid, but my city is getting 4G this month. When I went onto Verizon's site and they have a spot for 4G products to promote the new network and the only 2 listed were wireless pc cards, so what's the point if they don't have 4G phones? I'm thinking about waiting until they put out a 4G droid since I'd like to hang onto my for a few years, but I can't find anything about plans for a 4G Droid. Does anybody have any news? Sorry if this is a dupe. I didn't see anything.

According to Verizon 4g doesn't do anything on phones because they lack the power to render websites received faster then 3g. Approx. Feb.

Right, that's why they will need 4G phones that can handle the speeds. The 3G phones cannot handle anything faster than 3G. Where did the Feb date come from?

LOL, and you believed them? Wow. Explains why you have verizon to begin with, sorry just joking could not help myself.

The normal droids can handle the speeds of lte. Heck most smartphone built in the last year can handled that speed. Metro pc launched a 4g phone, it handles the speed just fine. If you are being told that a phone could not handle the speed, they are lying to you. Almost any smart phone created today can easily handle 3x the speed that lte can give you.

I know you want proof that Verizon is lying.

Ok easy enough. Go to your phone. Turn off your 3g radio, turn on your wifi radio connect to a router. Now browse the web, able to keep up? Yes it can. I have maxed the radio out on the evo to 54mbps connection, and guess what, it works just fine. You can do it at home, just connect to a wifi router. Now when lte comes to your phone it is going to have a soft cap about 12mbps. With and average about 4-6mbps. So if your home connection is less then 12mbps, you will know your current phone could handle lte. About the same as wimax. Your wifi router can get most phones well above 40mbps, maxing at 54mbps. Do the test yourself and stop believing what you are told.

Really? I was censored for that? Are you kidding me??
Anyway, I don't see how mine was any worse than his condescending, yet ignorant, post.
My point was that you are referring to wifi, not the phone's ability to pull 4G data speeds, so clearly you have no idea what you are talking about.

What do you mean by "pull 4g data speeds"? What specifically are those speeds? I professionally test wireless products, so yes I do actually know what I am talking about.

On topic, there will be a LTE Android handset launched commercially circa February- leaked info from one of VZW's LTE Engineers via Twitter indicates that it is the Incredible HD. As it stands, the phone is currently in the hands of testers.

You weren't "censored". Posts were deleted, including your one, because they didn't comply with forum rules.

@ all:
Last warning, people. Keep the discussion civil and confined to debating the topic rather than personalities, or infractions will follow. Everyone should be aware that rudeness is not something Android Forums tolerates.

CES is in late January. CES is where Verizon will be showing off their new 4G phones. So, likely they'll be available within a few weeks after CES. Simple as that.

CES is January 6-9. Hopefully we'll find out for sure then. Any info until then is just rumor, but I would guess no LTE phone until at least March.

I have to agree with this. I have a WiFi connection at home that averages 9-11 Mbps (with a peak of 16 Mbps):

And my DROID has no issue loading pages when on this fast connection.

According to GizmoCrunch, HTC Thunderbolt launches on Jan 6.

Oh, and as for the speed crap, it's not that the phones can't handle higher 3g speeds, it's the network. What the phones can handle via wifi or any other connection is pretty much meaningless for the 3g vs 4g argument.

I'm waiting for the Motorola Droid T2, it will be the first with 2.3 Gingerbread and will have Dual Core processors and Front (2MP) and Rear (8MP) cameras for Video Conferencing. Will be out in the first Quarter before the end of March. Its my first choice because it has all the features I want. I hate keyboards, like the higher res camera and dual processors, 2.3 is a plus but most Droids will be upgraded anyway. The HTC Thunderbolt, HTC Merge, and LG Tegra 2 are all 4G Droids due first quarter.

Actually everything in my first post was what I was told by a rep, including the feb date.
Now I'm not saying they are lying BUT I was being cynical. Looks like I missed the food fight though.....
