When will Android 3.0 get released?

us cellular said they might get 2.2 by the end of the year, i hope they just go to 3.0 and say hell with it lol. :) I know it will never happen but that would be sweet.

some of us are still stuck on 2.1

The prob. with 2.2 is that you can't clear the defaults and switch to standard android other than that its not much of an issue unless your big on tendering...and its reportedly got bug fixes...hence reason i use Launcher +

I heard from a 'reliable' source that 3.0 is planned for December, but likely not for most current handsets.

Right now all that is known about the next version of Android, called Gingerbread, is that Google was originally aiming for a late October release, but we haven't heard much on that either. Also confirmed is that Google is working primarily on the user experience (interface, I'm assuming), and will add support for WebM video playback via HTML5 on the browser. Other things such as version number (like 2.3 or 3.0), hardware requirements, baked in UI, etc., have all been debunked by Google as being nothing more than speculation.

I wont be surprised if they push gingerbread's release till Q1 2011 due to the release of windows phone 7. They'd probably wait and see how well it does and then make a move from there.

The Motorola Droid 2 R2D2 edition ships with 2.2 with a few extra tricks thrown in. They cooked a ROM out of that version for use with Droid 2's. Nothing was significantly different, but most of the annoyances I had with stock 2.2 on the original Droid were fixed.

I know most of the custom ROMs have great UI tweaks, but it is nice to see some thing reside in standard Android so that those who root can get even greater functionality.

What is 3.0 going to give us?

See below.

It would be wise for google to wait it out and see what winpho7 has to offer. No need to jump the gun, and have the competitor come out with a slick transition between Video and Cam, while Big G still uses some pull down menu..

Im biting time by messing around with root, roms, beta software, etc.

{including testing some things related to something that rhymes with Hobo-Tefence!} :]

I've been waiting to see this thread, I remember seeing people say that once they got flash with froyo that they'd be happy. It'll come when it comes. But mark my words, once Gingerbread drops, it won't be long until someone posts up asking about the next update.
